About

Hello!
I'm Ashutosh Panda, a programmer who enjoys diving deep into systems.
I love writing code, even if I end up rewriting most of it later.
I wrote my first code snippet in Java back in school (It was part of my curriculum. I liked being outdoors more). My teacher back then was really nice, and that’s probably where my interest in programming started. I love writing small and grounded code that gets the job done. "Small is beautiful" as one of my english teachers used to say.
Like a lot of people, I started with C when I first got into college. Never really knew how powerful it was until I tried other languages. I tried Rust shortly after hearing about it in some subreddit being compared to C and C++. I finished the book just for the sake of it. It was the first programming language that I learnt seriously, trying to check corners. LI went to YouTube to find out what people were making with Rust. Yes, they were all amazing things. I found Jon Gjengset's rust streams on writing a TCP stack from scratch. He is one of the prime reasons I love writing Rust today. Another gem I found was the Writing an OS in Rust series. This made me love systems programming. I went on to learn a lot more about systems programming.
Aside from all this, I like reading comics of all sorts. Certain animated media were a part of my growth as a person. I like taking pictures (not that good) and listening to music. My family also started going on trips a lot since I joined college. Not complaining, I love these trips.
I also have a humble home server (10yr old hardware). It has been a nice experience. Open source is so cool! Sadly, I don't have good hardware as of now. I'd love to cancel my google subscription but I don't quite get the same peace of mind with my current hardware. It's fun to maintain and break things on it though. It also has a small minecraft server running on it.
I like writing at length about things. There aren’t many articles here yet. I write when I get the time.
You can take a look at my work on my Github. There's also a resume here if you're curious.
